Does your sports club provide period products?
Are white shorts the only option for your team?
Have you ever spoken about periods with your coach or with your teammates?
As a coach do you know how to approach this conversation?
Do periods hold young people back in sport?

It’s time to talk openly about periods in sport! In September 2021, Anytime of the Month launched the Periods in Sport initiative. From our Anytime of the Month research among 812 respondents this is what we found out:

  • 58% have no alternative to white shorts in their club gear,
  • 60% have missed training or a match because of their period,
  • 10% quit sports because of their period
  • 96% would like to learn more about managing their periods for sports.

There is clearly a need for more open conversations and education when it comes to periods in sports. For young people, we have our existing Menstrual Health Education Programme which is very comprehensive in detailing all the information a person needs to know about their period.

For coaches and parents we developed a new workshop that covers the following topics:

  • What is period poverty and period stigma and how might it affect your team?
  • The basics of menstruation
  • The environmental impact of periods
  • How periods can impact sports
  • Resources available to help
  • Periods and health
  • Key action points

If you are a sports player, a coach or a parent and you want your sports organisation to take part in this workshop or to collaborate on an event please drop us an email for pricing and availability at info@anytimeofthemonth.com

    Our partnerships so far:

The Camogie Association has been a key partner in opening up the conversation of periods in Sport. Here’s what we have worked on so far together:

In August 2021 as part of the Camogie Association x Tesco Player Welfare Series, our team members Catriona O’Halloran and Ciara O’Flynn took part in a podcast about ‘The Young Female Athlete’. During this podcast we provided practical tips and insights to coaches on supporting players when it comes to creating a safe and open environment.
You can listen on any platform where you get your podcasts or follow this link.

In November 2021, we hosted a workshop as part of the Self Care Series organised by the Camogie Association. During this workshop, Catriona and Ciara spoke about the basics of menstruation, period poverty, the role of periods in sport and how periods are a determinant of our health.
